SCL: Fuente Alemana

Lomito is a tradition in Santiago and the Fuente Alemana serves one of the most famous in town. I found this place because  of Anthony Bourdain in Chile and obviously, a precious tip. What amazed me was the extreme cleanliness of the place. All employees in white, all the time cleaning the floor, counter, kitchen. The menu has some German dishes, but the star is Lomito, complete version. It’s a caloric bomb: bread, avocado (!!) onion, tomato, meat, mayonnaise. Delicious. Pair it with a cold beer. Extremely cheap (USD … Continue reading

SCL: Liguria

Liguria, other very traditional place in Santiago. The decor is beautiful, colorful and memories of Chilean culture on the walls. Just the decor  worths the visit. But the food is also good. Nothing fancy, just right seafood. At Liguria I had my first sensational Ostiones / Machas a la parmesana, very typical of Chile (scallops au gratin with cheese and other secret spices, something sent from God). As a entree, the Piures al Piu Piu, a seafood broth also very tasty. The menu is beautiful. … Continue reading

SCL: Bar Clinic or “Politics, humor and beer”

The Clinic is a famous group that mixes humor and politics in Chile. At Santiago downtown they have their own bar with the same name. Crowded during and after happy hours, this place is great for to drink, talk and reading the walls for hours. Yes, the walls are full of political jokes and important Chilean political facts. Food is trashy but good trash. On the photo below … Continue reading

SCL: W Hotel Santiago

W Hotels are cool and beautiful, but Santiago one is sensational.  In the upscale neighborhood of Las Condes, you hardly need to go out to enjoy the city. The decor is very modern. One of the best restaurants in town is within the hotel, the Nipo-Peruvian Osaka. The breakfast is wonderful, with treats like, one person to make your eggs your own style and fresh juices like the delicious cherry one. At downstairs there is a great gourmet market called Coquinaria and … Continue reading
